Listen now (60 mins) | In which I defend Gladiator 2 against all odds, Simon discovers Michael Bay's attempt at serious cinema, and we spend far too long discussing a milkshake metaphor.
I'm not sure if you guys were aware but you know Nick Cave wrote the first draft of Gladiator II? I've read it (it was a part of working through everything he'd ever written last month for my focus on Cave) - Wow: What at lost opportunity. The Cave script is much more in-line with the "feel" of the first film. Archetypal storytelling and all that . . .
I find it so interesting that Ridley Scott would personally approach Nick Cave for it though first. Studio interference? I think people are tired of the old CGI tripe though. ("Camp" is GOOD now). A film comparable in scale to Gladiator like "Godkiller" (THAT is what Cave wanted to call G2) is REFRESHING now.
The Gladiator II review really is so funny. "It's so camp . . . It's quite good!" 🤣
And the "DEATH" part. That cracked me up.
Hahaha glad to hear we're delivering entertainment 😂😂😂😂

Oh, I'm not even at the milkshakes yet. That IS one of THE BEST final scenes (TWBB of course, not G2).
