So happy I opened this up! You nailed my feelings about White Lotus. Also, as my wife says, “It’s a who done it, that’s why we keep watching despite the eewww factor.”

Just shoot me! Never liked white Lotus, just because everyone told me I should do not think it was smart or funny just kind of creepy and sad actually.

Enlightened. I love it so much, and remember Mike White breaking into tears begging people to watch. It’s sometimes hard to fathom that the same guy I loved making “Chuck and Buck” and “The Good Girl” has finally gotten this kind of success in the medium.

Okay, season 3’s writing is weak and the humor juvenile, but I think it’s still making some points about power and how humans wield it in relationships with and against one another. Well, trying to, I guess. Chef is great, I used to show it a lot in class. Ruben Östlund is good with that power dynamic stuff.

Hey Anthony! Yeah that's the thing - it's not like it's saying //nothing//, but it's not saying anything remotely challenging or anything I haven't heard before. I don't know. I want to have some empathy because White writes on his own, and when the 1) premise is the same (murder mystery), 2) the setting is the same (luxury hotel), I can only imagine how hard it can be to truly innovate from a storytelling POV but shock value tactics and dialogue just generally annoys me. Like, just hire a group of writers to get some fresh ideas going. What is he even doing with the staff this season? Such a missed opp to touch on classism, especially in the context of being in Thailand. But oh well!

Chef is SO good haha. Yeah, love anything from Ruben actually.

yeah, I feel ya. Seems like Mike White is falling back to shock value and some basic tropes, for sure. I'm still hoping he's holding back some good stuff for the end.

I'm looking forward to the next Ruben Östlund movie.
